What an exciting New Year it has been for us. Tanya and I have been learning how your kiddo learns and how to implement new practices into our curriculum. We had the opportunity to learn from Maslow's own Amber Gardner. It was truly inspiring to hear and witness some of the research her and her team have been conducting. We are excited and open to conversations about what we have learned. Gaining a "Concept of Number" is our goal for your kiddo. This can be done with implementing a new approach while keeping what has worked inside our classroom.
Conversation Starter: How do you play "Double Decker Bus" and "How Far From the Start are You?"

Thank you SO much for all the volunteers during the Halloween Parties! It was a spook-tacular day and we enjoyed spending part of it with you!
Math Class
Intermediate:
Everyone in class this week has been working on multiplication in some fashion. We have been practicing the process of going through the steps. We make sure to introduce the students to different methods of multiplication. If they surprise you with a different method, or ask you for help, don't worry and send them our way! Some methods seem strange to people if they use a more traditional way. Take a look at the lattice method below.
Conversation Starter: Challenge them with a multiplication problem.
Primary:
We begin each class on the carpet. Each student has a spot with their name on it. This is where we go over out itinerary for the day. This week we focused on subtraction.
Conversation Starter: Ask them what an "itinerary" is you use it in math class. Ask them who the helper of the week is and how many days we have been in school for.

Everyone could benefit knowing what type of natural learner they are. Conversation Starter: Intermediate:What type of learner are you? How did you decorate your pumpkin? Primary:Count money! What was your favorite part of the pumpkin patch? |

Math Class:
Intermediate:
Along side our normal routine, we learned about what it means to be a self advocate. We now have forms inside our classroom that are available at all times for the student to use. The form is a green paper with room to write in their concerns or thoughts they wish to share with a teacher. This is a great way for a student who might not feel comfortable speaking up about their concerns.
Conversation Starter: What did you write on your self advocacy paper? What does "being a self-advocate" mean?
Primary:
It's been all about money, honey. This week we focused on learning and review our coins and how to count them. We also learned about the story of Abraham Lincoln.
Conversation Starter: Practice counting coins at home! Ask them what they thought about Abe Lincoln's life.
